I always knew I wanted to work with children but, even though my work life took a different path, I never gave up on my dream. At the age of 40 I qualified as a teaching assistant. Since then I have continued to work in the same school. I’ve been an early years practitioner, nursery key worker, classroom assistant, inclusion support assistant, and lunchtime supervisor – all this while continuing as a before and after school club leader for children aged 3 -11.
I honestly believe there’s no greater privilege than supporting and taking care of children. I’m often told by happy children ” Miss Payne, you’re so silly”, which I find is a great complement. To make a child laugh or smile and to make a child feel safe and loved are some the greatest gifts we could ever give.
Away from work, I enjoy all kinds of sports, both watching and trying to take part. My favourite sport is football.
I also enjoy travelling around the UK visiting my extended family and friends.
