Supervision for your Designated Safeguarding Lead and/or Deputy DSL

Safeguarding Supervision for your DSL

About this course

Statutory guidance highlights the importance of the DSL’s role, what training and support they should receive, and the critical role of supervision.

The ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ guidance states that DSLs ‘should be given the time, funding, training, resources and support to provide advice and support to other staff on child welfare and child protection matters…’.

Further guidance also highlights that ‘effective practitioner supervision can play a critical role in ensuring a clear focus on a child’s welfare. Supervision supports practitioners to reflect  on the impact of their decisions on the child and their family – ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ (HM Government, 2018)

Specific safeguarding supervision for your DSL can significantly enhance safeguarding knowledge and practice. This training looks at formal, 1:1 or group supervision for your school’s DSL/Deputy DSL.
